The Best Cafes in Harrogate

Harrogate is the founding birthplace of Betty’s Cafe Tea Rooms, renowned internationally as one of the all-time best cafes in the world. However, there are so many other amazing cafes in this beautiful spa town, here are just some of our favourites (click on the name to open up Google Maps with the location);

Relaxed, stone-walled cafe serving British & global eats plus craft beer & specialty coffee. This place is perfect for brunch, offering a wide range of delicious healthy and not as healthy options. We love this place, you will not be disappointed. The pizzas are fab as are the juices!

Formerly known as Hustle and Co, this fresh independent offers amazing coffees and healthy breakfast and brunch options. Located near the train station, it is about a 15 minute from The Belmont Apart Hotel or Fountains Guest House, but definitely worth the walk. Perhaps a good option if you’ve got an hour to wait for your train too.

Real bread, traditionally made. Staff are so friendly and helpful – sandwiches are some of the best in Harrogate, all freshly made on site. Another great option for take away lunch. Everything is beautifully presented, the service is fantastic, and the choice will thrill you! It is a very special place.

Harrogate’s new independent deli with exotic and local charcuterie, cheeses, salads and cakes. If you’re heading up towards Valley Gardens, this is a great option for grabbing a coffee and cake! There is a good sized seating area outside, under cover with heaters too.

Local, Independent and friendly American Breakfast Café. Available for Tea, Coffee, Cake, Breakfast & Brunch. If you love waffles and pancakes, crispy bacon and maple syrup – this is the place for you!

locally sourced coffee, loose leaf tea, smoothies, home-baked sweet treats and a tasty breakfast and lunch selection. Not to be confused with the gin shop – or maybe that could be a good thing!! Offering a mellow vibe, good value and the owner once worked for Michelin.

The most iconic tea room of them all, make sure you book early! No trip to Harrogate is complete without visiting or perhaps even mentioning Betty’s. There are two in town, the iconic one at the corner of Parliament St and Montpellier Parade, there’s also a Betty’s at RHS Harlow Carr – this is usually a bit quieter and more chance of being able to book a table.

A foodie heaven with a difference, passionate about local food & helping farmers & producers sell their products. Not really walking distance from Fountains or The Belmont but worth a drive out. Massive cooked breakfasts and great service. You can’t book a table unfortunately but the food is well worth the wait. A little bit on the expensive side but worth it for quality produce.

With a passion for quality, taste and service and a goal to offer a taste sensation that will brighten up your day. Guaranteed to be greeted with a smile, these guys are a short walk up Kings Road from The Belmont and Fountains. Lovely coffee and great option for a take-away light bite if you’re heading out to Fountains Abbey, Knaresborough, Brimham Rocks.

To be honest, we’re so lucky in Harrogate to have such a wide variety of incredible independent cafes, we’re not able to list them all. If you end up in a place not listed above and it is fabulous, please do let us know.

We encourage our guests to support independent businesses during their stay and avoid the major chain brands in the town. Running a small business is challenging, by supporting one another, we help keep the rich variety in the town making Harrogate such a special and unique place to stay.
